The Gator Snapper – We just call this guy “The Alligator Snapper” and that
is exactly what he is (Macrochelys temminckii.)
He came to our sanctuary from an educator in Rochester, NY. We estimate
his age to be about 10-15 years old. Even though he weighs about 50
pounds, we still frequently use him in our Florida native education
programs. Sometimes we will demonstrate his powerful crushing jaws by
enticing him to snap at a carrot.
