Native Florida: What has 80 teeth, powerful jaws and
carries her young around in her mouth? Alligators of
course! Some of the most amazing reptiles in the world
are in our own backyards.
Did you know that Florida is the only place in the world
where you can find alligators and crocodiles living side by
side? In this program we explore the native and exotic
reptiles with which we share our state.
Amazing Australia: Both a country and a continent the land of OZ is home to some of the most
unique animals on the plant. In the land down under reptiles thrive. Learn about this amazing place
and meet some of the curious critters that call Australia home.
Wetland Wonders: Wetlands are among the worlds
most threatened habitats, largely because of the
impact of people. Many reptiles including American
Alligators rely on these fragile habitats.
In this program learn what a wetland is and why
stinky swamps and mucky marshes are important not
only to wildlife, but to us humans.
The following theme is geared specifically towards middle and high school audiences.
Reptile Evolution & Crocodilian Biology: Virtually unchanged for the past 250 million years, crocodilians are living fossils. Learn how through the course of evolution, reptiles have adapted to live in a variety of habitats. In this program we will focus on the processes that have resulted in the amazing adaptations that the reptiles of today possess.
The following themes can be geared towards a basic audience (pre-K-5th), an intermediate audience (6th-8th) or an advanced audience (9th and above).
Amazing Reptile Adaptations: Through millions of years of
adaptation, the reptiles that occupy our planet today are excellent
survivors. In this program we start with the basics, learning just what
animals are reptiles and why we classify them that way.
We then apply this understanding to how reptiles are adapted to live in
the variety of habitats that they occupy. The audience will discover why
crocodilians survived the mass extinction that killed the dinosaurs and
how snakes get along with out any arms or legs. In this program we
attempt to turn fear and misunderstanding of the scaly and slithery into
appreciation and respect.
